Captain Georgina Sutton FRAeS

QANTAS Captain Georgina Sutton is the Boeing B787 Dreamliner Base Operations Manager, Sydney International Airport.

A position she has held for some 2 years, in addition to being a QANTAS B787 Check and Training Captain.

Georgina first commanded the Dreamliner in 2015, at which time she was promoted to be the Chief Pilot and Head of Flying Operations for Jetstar Australia and New Zealand, the highest position ever held by a female in a major Australian airline.

Aviation has been in Georgina’s blood ever since she went for her first flight in a vintage ES 49 glider in 1977 at Blanchetown on the River Murray in South Australia.

She followed a career in commercial aviation from 1985, firstly with the smaller regional airlines in South and Western Australia, and then from 1989 with QANTAS and its associated airlines, Australian Airlines and Jetstar, flying initially as a 2nd officer in the B747 Jumbo jet.

She became B767 Captain in 2001 and the QANTAS B767 Fleet Captain in 2013. In addition to her flying duties, Captain Sutton was an accredited Air Accident Investigator for 10 years from 2001. In 2016, she was admitted as a fellow in the Royal Aeronautical Society.

Georgina is an inspirational leader and daughter of Rotarian Peter Sutton of our Club. A perfect choice to speak at Rotary Adelaide’s International Women’s Day lunch.
